Preparing for Your Child’s First Day at Huggie Bears Family Childcare: A Parent’s Guide

What to expect?

Your child’s first day at childcare is a significant milestone – for both children and their families. Whether you are returning to work, returning to education, starting a new routine, or simply encouraging social development, that first day can feel like an emotional rollercoaster. With the right preparation, however, it can be a smooth and positive transition for the whole family.

It is important to remember that you are not alone in feeling nervous. Every parent/carer that has walked through the doors of Huggie Bears Family Childcare has felt these same emotions. It is completely natural, and we are here to support not just your child, but also parents/carers during this transition process.

At Huggie Bears Family Childcare we never underestimate your child’s first day, so here is a guide to help you prepare with confidence and calm.

Preparing for the Big Day

Firstly, before your child’s official day there will be settling in sessions where a Settling in Pack will be provided with key questions to get to know your child. After all, you will know lots of helpful information such as sleep routines, weaning stage, likes and dislikes. This information can be used to ensure a smooth transition into Huggie Bears Family Childcare from the very first day.

Start Talking about Huggie Bears Family Childcare Early

Begin discussing with your child a few weeks before their start date. Use age-appropriate language and a positive tone to describe what their days might look like: playing with toys, reading books, eating snacks, and meeting new friends. Reading books about starting childcare can also help familiarize them with the idea.

Establish a Consistent Routine

Children thrive on routine. In the weeks leading up to their first day, start adjusting their schedule to match what it will be like at Huggie Bears Family Childcare – waking up, eating meals, and napping at similar times. This consistency will ease the transition and reduce surprises.

For all children under twelve months old we will follow baby’s routine. Once children are twelve months old, they will gradually settle into Huggie Bears Family Childcare daily routine including mealtimes and naptimes.

Label Everything

From bottles to backpacks to shoes, clearly label all your child’s belongings with their name. This helps to keep track of items and minimises the chance of anything getting lost.
